On Wednesday 7th of December, a Seminar on Female Managerial Recruitment, 'Efforts in Recruiting Women in Managerial Positions at Shiseido,' was held at TUFS. There were 33 participants in total, with 10 of these coming from outside of TUFS.
We were lucky enough to have this seminar taught by the woman who paved the way for women at Shiseido, President and CEO of wiwiw Incorporated (a company that supports efforts towards promoting work-life balance and women-inclusive diversity), and visiting scholar at Showa Women's University, Ms. Kyoko Yamagiwa.
Ms. Yamagiwa discussed her experiences working at Shiseido, which was ranked first for three years consecutively (2014-2016) in Nikkei Women's '100 Best Companies where Women Play an Active Part' ranking. She also discussed how Japan has a particularly low percentage of women in managerial positions for a developed country, and that in order for Japan to catch up with the rest of the world, it is necessary for companies to simultaneously promote gender diversity and work-life balance.
*This seminar was held as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2016 'Initiative for Realizing Diversity in the Research Environment, Funds for the Development of Human Resources in Science and Technology.'
