TUFS Cinema Tibetan Film Exhibition

On Saturday 15 th and Sunday 22 nd April 2017, four works of Tibetan film were screened at an exhibition of Tibetan film (sponsored by the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa at TUFS and Moviola) held in the Prometheus Hall of the AGORA Global building at TUFS.

On the first day on 15 th April, aside from a screening of "The Search" and "Old Dog" by Tibetan director Pema Tseden, who has been active on the international stage since before Tibetan director Sonthar Gyal, we welcomed film director Ichiyama Shozo, who joined a talk session with Prof. Hoshi Izumi (TUFS Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa).

On the second day on 22 nd April was a screening of the documentary "A Day in the Life of Tibetan Pastoralists" planned and produced by the Pastoral Terminology Dictionary Editing Team of TUFS's Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, as well as Director Sonthar Gyal's debut work 'The Sun Beaten Path'. In addition, we welcomed Tibetan relations translator Miura Junko, who joined a talk session with Prof. Hoshi. (both talk sessions were chaired by Takei Miyuki, representative for film distribution company Moviola).

On both days there were over 120 attendees, demonstrating the interest in Tibetan film.

From 6 th - 12 th May, the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa will show six works of Tibetan film in an event entitled 'Screening of Masterpieces of Tibetan Films' at Osaka Dainana Geijutsu Gekijo with the joint sponsorship of Moviola and Osaka Dainana Geijutsu Gekijo
