Lecture form the Kazakh Ambassador in Japan

On Tuesday 16 ^th May 2017, His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev, Kazakh Ambassador in Japan, gave a lecture at TUFS entitled 'The 25-Year Road of Kazakh Independence and the Prospects for the Development of Kazakh-Japanese Relations' (hosted by TUFS Institute for International Relations; the Russian Language Research Room; and the Central Asian Research Room).

His Excellency gave a detailed explanation in Japanese of Kazakhstan's economic development and the issues faced by Kazakhstan's economy in the 25 years since its independence; as well as on the culture and society of Kazakhstan, in which 130 ethnic groups and 17 religions coexist. He also spoke about the state and prospects of the relationship between Kazakhstan and Japan, including how Japan was one of the first nations to recognise Kazakhstan's independence and has had a collaborative relationship with the country not only in the economic sphere but also in the initiative towards a nuclear weapon-free world.

Including mainly students of Central Asian area studies and Russian area studies, around 150 attended. Following the lecture, there was a lively question and answer session with the students on topics including Kazakhstan's efforts towards the abolition of nuclear weapons, the issue of diversifying the Kazakh economy, and plans for the development of new infrastructure for the distribution of goods Eurasia.

Prior to the lecture, the ambassador paid a visit to President Tateishi.
