TUFS Cinema Screening of Cuban Film

June 2017, TUFS Cinema held a screening of the Cuban film 'Memorias del Subdesarrollo' in the Prometheus hall of the AGORA Global building.
This screening event was organised by School of Languages and Cultures Spanish language fourth year student
Kazuki Niiya
, whose research is focused on Spanish language film. After the screening,
Niiya
led a talk session with film buyer and Spanish translator
Higa Setsuko
(representative of Action Inc.) and TUFS teaching staff member Kuno Ryoichi (Institute of Global Studies Associate Professor of Latin American literature), who spoke about the film's historical background, director, and original work, as well as the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) and the spirit of film in Cuba.
As well as the usual TUFS students, there were many attendees form outside the university, and the venue, which has a maximum capacity of 500, was almost full. With the restoration of diplomatic relations with the USA and the death of Fidel Castro, the increased interest in the Cuba as the country approaches a significant turning point could be felt
