Ukrainian Artists Participate in Opening of Anti-War Exhibition Дом-Дым-Дом
May 18, 2022
On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the exhibition Дом-Дым-Дом (Home-Smoke-Home) opened at the Browsing Space on the second floor of the TUFS library.
Since February 24, 2022, the day the Russian forces began its invasion of Ukraine, there have been cries against the war around the world. This exhibition was planned to encourage students who study foreign languages, cultures, and histories to think about this historically negative moment through the work of artists concerned about the current tragedy in Ukraine. In view of current concerns of Ukraine, we are opening the exhibition to the public in the hope that not only students but also the general public will take this opportunity to think about this historical tragedy.
The title of the exhibition is from Russian words - "Дом-Дым-Дом," in English means “Home-Smoke-Home.” Дом (Home) refers to a destroyed building, a cherished family, and targets of attack. Дым (Smoke) refers to the visible smoke from Russian invasion in Ukraine, as well as to the propaganda taking place in Russia, the smoky stuff you don’t want to see.
In this exhibition, seven artists from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and Japan express through painting, photography, calligraphy, and ikebana flower arrangement how they understand this war and the theme of “home” that is common to all cultures.
The exhibition will run through Thursday, June 16.
