TUFS Cinema Jordanian Film Screening with Embassy of Jordan
July 6, 2022
On Monday, July 4, 2022, a screening of the TUFS Cinema Jordanian film Theeb was held at the Agora Global Prometheus Hall.
This screening was decided upon after discussions with Consul Talal Masarweh of the Embassy of Jordan in Japan during his visit to TUFS in February 2020. Later, TUFS signed an academic exchange agreement with the University of Jordan, and at the signing ceremony additional discussions were held with the Jordanian Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Dr. Leena An-Nabu. The Embassy of Jordan in Japan took the initiative in producing Japanese subtitles for the film Theeb, and with the completion of the Japanese subtitles it was decided to screen the film at TUFS. The July screening marked the resumption of the TUFS Cinema program, which had been suspended for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the screening, President Kayoko Hayashi congratulated TUFS on the reopening of the TUFS Cinema, and Professor Hiroyuki Aoyama expressed his gratitude to the Jordanian Embassy in Japan in Arabic. After the screening, a talk session was held with Mr. Muhammad al-Khalidi, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Jordan in Tokyo, and Consul Talal Masarweh. The talk session was moderated by TUFS students Kousuke Saito (2nd year student, School of International and Area Studies) and Yota Omori (1st year student, School of International and Area Studies).
Despite being held on a weekday, the event was attended by about 130 people from inside and outside of the university, indicating their keen interest in Jordan.
