September 15, 2022
On Saturday, September 10, 2022, the Iranian film “Bodyguard” was screened at the Agora Global Prometheus Hall as a part of the TUFS Cinema program.
This 2016 film not only won the Best Actor and Best Visual Effects awards at the Fajr International Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in Iran, but also won three awards (Best Director, Best Artistic Director and Best Supporting Actor) at the 2017 VIFF Vienna Independent Film Festival in Austria. Directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia, the film is a human drama with depth that includes car action scenes, a rarity for an Iranian film.
Prior to the screening, Satoshi Morishima, a part-time lecturer at TUFS, provided the audience with some information on Iran that is important to understand in viewing the film. Later, Mr. Morishima gave a lecture on Iranian society in relation to the film, highlighted by a detailed explanation of the word shaheed (generally translated as “martyr”). The lecture was followed by a question-and-answer session.
