Oceania Documentary Film Screening of "Adventures of Chechemeni"

On Sunday, May 14, 2023, TUFS Cinema Oceania Documentary Film Screening was held at the Prometheus Hall of the TUFS Agora Global to screen the film "Adventures of Chechemeni".
The film documents the voyage of the Chechemeni, which traveled from Satawal Island in the Federated States of Micronesia to Okinawa Prefecture in the 1970s using traditional canoe navigation techniques, the building of traditional canoes, and life in Satawal Island at the time. The Chechemeni is currently on display at the National Museum of Ethnology (Suita City, Osaka Prefecture).
After the screening of the film, Associate Professor Yuriko Yamanouchi, who is in charge of the Oceania course at TUFS, moderated a talk session with Osamu Monden, representative of Studio Umi Inc., one of the production team members of the film, and Associate Professor Rintaro Ono of the National Museum of Ethnology, who specializes in marine archaeology. Mr. Monden talked about the production process and episodes from the time of production, and Associate Professor Ono talked about the maritime culture of the Federated States of Micronesia.
