ISEP-TUFS: International Student Exchange Program of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
The purpose of ISEPTUFS is to provide international students with the opportunity to study in Japan, to gain proficiency in the Japanese Language, or to acquire a firm understanding of the international community and Japan's place in it. By studying alongside with other international, as well as Japanese students, participants in the ISEPTUFS Program gain a great deal of experience in international communication and cultural exchange. Each year, ISEPTUFS accepts over 200 international students (including both Spring and Fall Entry Students), who spend half a year or a full year at TUFS. In most cases the students can transfer their credits back to their home universities.
Eligibility Requirements
The specific eligibility requirements for applicants to ISEPTUFS are as follows:
A) Applicants must enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program at a partner university which has a mutual student exchange agreement with TUFS
B) Requirement regarding the minimum number of semesters completed at the time of application: Applicants are required to complete at least 1 semester at the home university and submit at least 1 semester's transcript at the time of application
C) Language Requirement: Japanese or English
English: CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B2
Or
Japanese: Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2
Although no prior knowledge of Japanese is required, applicants are encouraged to study at least basic Japanese before coming to Japan.
D) GPA Requirement: 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
E) Applicants must be in good physical and mental health at the time of application.
Curriculum
Most ISEPTUFS students study at TUFS for a full year, though some students opt to stay here for only a single semester. Students can also choose to begin their studies in either Spring (April Entry) or Fall (October Entry) Semesters.
