On November 6, 2019, as one of the inbound programs of COIL-type classes, Prof. Misaki Natsuaki and three students of University of California, Riverside (UCR) which is one of the partner universities in the U.S., visited Tamagawa Seigakuin Girl’s Junior High School with ICU coordinator Aso. In three classes of the 2nd year, UCR students explained their home countries’ cultures and UCR by using a power point presentation and other visual materials. Japanese junior high school students were surprised at cultural differences and listened to their presentation attentively. After the question-and-answer session, the junior high school students taught how to play Origami to UCR students, and UCR students had a chance to experience Japanese culture. For UCR students who major in education, it was a good chance to learn the field by actually visiting a school and interacting with students, not just by taking a lecture at the university. They also had a chance to talk with teachers there, and it helped them expand their knowledge about differences between Japanese and American education system.
